MissionZebra – Student Project (“we”, “us” or “our”) develops the MissionZebra app, a tool that helps families manage screen time in a positive and conscious way. This Privacy Policy explains how we process personal data when you use our app.

1.3. Automatically collected technical data

We do not collect precise location data, contacts, photos or information for personalized advertising.
2. Why do we use this data?
We process personal data only for the following purposes:
- To operate the MissionZebra app and provide screen time functionality
- To manage children, tasks, rewards and points
- To enable secure login and access to your account
- To improve the stability, reliability and user experience of the app
We do not use your data for commercial data selling, building ad profiles or selling data to third parties.
3. How and where is data stored?
3.1. Firebase (Firestore & Authentication)
Data is stored in the cloud environment of Google Firebase. Firebase uses secure data centers and applies industry-standard security and privacy measures.
Using Firestore Security Rules, we aim to restrict access so that users can only read or modify their own data, as far as technically feasible within this project.
4. Children and parental responsibility
MissionZebra is intended to be managed by parents or legal guardians, and to be used together with children.
- Accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian.
- Children use the app under parental supervision.
- We do not directly request contact data from children and focus on minimal, child-friendly data (e.g. a name or nickname).
Parents are responsible for the information they enter about their children and for the way the app is used within the family.
5. Do we share data with third parties?
We do not share personal data with third parties, except in the following cases:
5.1. Service providers (processors)
We use Google Firebase for:
- Authentication (Firebase Authentication)
- Data storage (Cloud Firestore)
- (Optional) Crash and performance monitoring
These services process data on our behalf and according to their own privacy terms. They are not allowed to use the data for their own independent purposes.
5.2. Legal obligations
We may disclose data if required by law or if requested by a competent authority, to the extent necessary and permitted by applicable law.
6. Data retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active and the app is being used. When you request deletion of your account, we generally delete the associated data from Firebase, unless we are required to keep it longer to comply with legal obligations.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
Under the GDPR you have, among others, the following rights:
- The right to access the personal data we process about you
- The right to rectify inaccurate data
- The right to erase data (“right to be forgotten”)
- The right to restrict processing in certain cases
- The right to object to certain types of processing
- The right to data portability (where technically feasible)
You can exercise these rights by contacting us at missionzebrahelp@gmail.com. We may ask you for reasonable verification to make sure you are the legitimate user.
8. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, such as:
- Using encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- Secure authentication via Firebase
- Access restrictions at database level (Firestore Security Rules)
However, no system is completely foolproof. We therefore cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do our best to minimise risks.
